Chevrolet are revving up their Indian small car ops with the impending launch of the much awaited Chevrolet Beat hatchback. While the Chevrolet Beat is positioned as the successor of the Chevy Spark in global markets, in India it will be positioned a step higher than the Spark. The launch will be sometime in December this year. Coming to the styling, the Chevrolet Beat has a agressive high snout that seems slightly inspired by it’s elder brother, the Cruze. The in-your-face styling continues with a high bonnet, a arrow like crouching stance. Youngsters will love the styling while the oldies might not. A highish roof line will make it a tall-small car, sorry couldn’t avoid alliterating. On the whole, we can assure you that plenty of eyeballs will turn when the Chevrolet Beat passes by.

The interior too seems to follow the trend started by the Cruze, the futuristic dual cockpit theme. Visually, the boot looks very small and internally too, it has a diminutive capacity of just 170 litres. Not good news if the Beat wants to target families. Also, the highish rear windows are pretty small. This could make rear passengers feel claustrophobic. Coming to the mechanicals, the Beat features a 1199cc engine outputting 79Bhp. While the global model features a 1206cc engine, Chevrolet has chopped off a few cc to reap in the excise benefits. 79 horses should endow the 965 kilo Beat with plenty of grunt. The biggest factor that might result in sales going the Beat’s way is the mouth watering ex showroom price of Rs375,000 for the base version. This, if not anything could be the factor that gives GM a foot in the door, in the great Indian small car market.
