The cheapest Audi in India, the A3 has received a facelift. It now gets more equipment and driver assistance systems along with new engines.
The compact sedan gets a new grille and new headlights to make it look sportier. The headlights are xenon units as standard but you can get the new matrix LED headlights as an option. This is the first time that the matrix LED headlights are being offered on the Audi A3. The car comes with five new paint finishes. They are Ara blue, Cosmic blue, Nano gray, Tango red and Vegas yellow. Daytona gray is reserved for the optional S line exterior package.
On the inside, the new A3 gets Audi’s virtual cockpit for the first time. It displays relevant information on a 12.3-inch high resolution TFT screen. The MMI system is also updated and can be accessed via a 7-inch screen. MMI navigation and MMI navigation plus with MMI touch along with Audi connect module is available as an optional extra. The system comes with Google Earth and Google Street View traffic information in real time along with information on parking, destinations, news or the weather.
Powering the Audi A3 are three petrol engine and two diesel engine including two new engines. For the first time in the sedan, Audi is offering a 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine producing 115 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The other new engine is a 2.0-litre petrol engine 190 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The third petrol engine is a 1.4-litre unit producing 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The base diesel is a new 1.6-litre unit producing 110 bhp. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is available in two states of tune – 150 bhp and 340 Nm of torque or 184 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. The transmission options available are a 6-speed manual gearbox and a new 7-speed dual clutch S tronic automatic gearbox.
The car rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with 17-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch wheels available in the options list. The options list also include the S line sports suspension, which reduces the ride height and the S line electrically powered progressive steering system.
The new Audi A3 comes with new driver assistance and safety systems. It gets Audi active lane assist and Audi pre sense front with predictive pedestrian protection as standard. As optional, you can choose traffic jam assist which works with the Audi adaptive cruise control (ACC) and the Stop&Go feature. You can also choose the Emergency Assist and the rear cross-traffic assist.
The Audi S3 gets 10 bhp and 20 Nm of torque more than the outgoing car. The 2.0-litre petrol engine now puts out 310 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
The new Audi A3 will go on sale in May with deliveries beginning in summer. It will come to India later.
