2016 Volkswagen Ameo Showcased At The Auto Expo

Volkswagen showcased their new compact sedan, the Ameo at the Auto Expo.

Just like the Vento, the Volkswagen Ameo is based on the Polo hatchback

The new Ameo is based on the Polo and it looks very similar to the hatchback till the rear doors. The sedan is less than 4 metres long. The rear, with those sharp lines, does not look so great. The sedan gets smoked headlamps, new alloy wheels and outside rear view mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators.

On the inside, you find a very familiar cockpit. It looks identical to that of the Polo and the Vento. It comes equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, rear AC vents, footwell lights, a cooled glove box and a lot of other storage options, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and a touchscreen multimedia system with MirrorLink smartphone integration.

For the firs time, the diesel engine gets the DSG automatic gearbox

Powering the sedan is a three cylinder, 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The engines are mated to a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox. For the first time, the automatic gearbox is available on the diesel. The powertrain is the same as what we get in the Polo and the Vento. The car rides on 16-inch wheels. The safety features include a rear-view camera, Hill Hold function, ABS and dual airbags.

The Ameo is sub-compact sedan that will be launched soon and will take on vehicles in a competitive segment

The sub-compact sedan will be launched in the second quarter of 2016 and is expected to be priced at INR 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will go up to INR 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). It competes with the Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
