Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) have officially launched its third generation avatar of Activa with the suffix 3G in India. The 2015 Honda Activa 3Greceives a mildly refreshed look while it has the same old engine has been in the market for years. We review the changes.

The Activa 3G receives minor design updates.

Looks

The new Honda Activa 3G essentially looks similar to the older Activa 110. There are a few subtle refreshments done on the body which can be overlooked. The side panels on the new Activa 3G have been tweaked to have new air vents on both the sides. The Activa badge now adopts a catchy 3D form with a small ‘3G’ logo as a superscript which signifies the third generation of the popular automatic scooter. The tail lamp section of the new Activa 3G has been revised to give a clear lens appearance to enhance visibility.

The Activa 3G continues to use the same 109.2 cc 4-stroke air-cooled mill.

The front fascia is almost the same as the older version of with some minor touch-ups. The front number plate has changed in form factor and is now longer. The instrument console has undergone minor visual changes but the basic layout has not been changed. The most vibrant change however is the addition of two new metallic colors in the new variant namely as Trance Blue and Lusty Red.

Engine

The engine on the new Honda Activa 3G remains the same 109.2cc air-cooled, 4-storke unit as that of the older generation Activa. The motor produces a power of 8 bhp @ 7500 RPM and torque of 8.74 Nm of torque @ 5500 RPM when mated to a CVT. The HET (Honda Eco Technology) enabled scooter is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 60 kmpl.

Ride and Handling

The scooter offers Combi Braking System (CBS).

The suspension system on the new Activa 3G is also kept unchanged and involves the same spring loaded Hydraulic type units at either end. Telescopic front fork is a glaring omission especially considering that most of Activa’s competitors adopt the superior suspension setup. The 10-inch tuff-up tyres are retained and so are the 130 mm drum brakes with CBS (Combi Braking System).

Price

The new Honda Activa 3G is available at INR 48,852 (Ex-Showroom Delhi). An updated version at no increase in price is sure to help the current segment kingpin to retain its crown.
