Honda And Mercedes Showcase F1 Cars At The Auto Expo

Honda and Mercedes showcased their respective Formula One cars at the 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The Mercedes car was on display was the F1 W04, which was designed and built by Mercedes-AMG for the 2013 Formula One season. The car was designed by Aldo Costa (Engineering Director), Bob Bell (Mercedes Technical Director) and Geoff Willis (Technology Director).

The car is powered by a Mercedes-Benz FO 108F 2.4 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 750 bhp and 830 bhp. The engine had a rev limit of 18, 000 rpm. It was paired to a 7-speed semi-automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The race car weighs 642 kgs and runs on Pirelli P Zero tyres.

In the 2013 season, the car was driven by German driver Nico Rosberg and British driver Lewis Hamilton. It made its debut at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix. Over the 19 race season, Mercedes got 3 wins, 9 podiums and 8 pole position with the car. They gathered 360 points to finish second in the World Constructors Championship.

At the McLaren stand, Honda had displayed the MP4-30. The car was designed and built by McLaren while the engine is from Honda. It marked the return of Honda to Formula One. The designers were Tim Goss (Technical Director) and Neil Oatley (Director of Design and Development Programs).

The car is powered by a Honda RA615H Hybrid turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engine. It has a rev limit of 15,000 rpm. The engine is paired to a McLaren racing gearbox with 8 forward gears. The race car weighs 702 kgs and runs on Pirelli P Zero tyres.

In the 2015 season, the car was driven by Spanish driver Fernando Alonso and British driver Jenson Button. It made its debut at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix. Over the 19 race season, McLaren Honda could not get any wins, podiums or pole positions with the car. They had a very tough season. They scored 27 points to finish 9th in the World Constructors Championship.
