has been spotted several times testing, in the local market as well as in Germany in an instance. Now the frugal 7-seater is revealed to have been exported to Spain and the United Kingdom.
Mahindra U301 is a completely new product, but it is engineered to be a more comfortable and urban alternative to Mahindra Bolero.
According to the import / export log of India, many units of Mahindra U301 have been shipped to Spain. It can be deduced that the SUV will be offered in at least three variants, and that ballpark price of each, low-end, mid-variant and top-end version, are Rs. 6.02 lakhs, Rs. 6.65 lakhs and Rs. 7.45 lakhs respectively. As said, this may not be the exact ex-showroom price when it launches in India, but each variants’ price may not turn out to be higher than these declared values by more than say, Rs. 50,000.
Mahindra U301 will be a modern interpretation of Mahindra Bolero, although it may not share much of the latter’s components or sub-assemblies.
Underpinned by the third generation ladder-frame chassis that supports the current Mahindra Scorpio, the SUV is expected to be more agile than the off-road friendly Bolero, and offer much better performance and drivability. A 7-seater for the suggested price is one thing, but according to reports, the SUV will be loaded with features like the way its big brothers, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500, are equipped with. That includes multi-function steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity to pair smartphones, Airbags, ABS and the like.
Codename Mahindra U301 is a global product that is set to carry the baton from the ever popular Bolero MUV, not that the latter will be discontinued, but to evolve the brand as a whole and to cater to several markets as a product more premium than Bolero with the same fundamental qualities.
Mahindra U301will be powered by Mahindra Quanto’s 1.5 litre 3-cylinder 12-valve turbo diesel engine, possibly with heavy tweaking for improved drivability and fuel efficiency. Further, in addition to 5-speed manual gearbox, the car is now confirmed to sport the much appreciated Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology.
