It is finally here.
It is finally here. The successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo Valentino Balboni edition is the new Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2. It is less powerful than the normal Huracan but weighs less. More importantly, it has rear wheel drive and likes to oversteer.
The RWD Huracan is less powerful and lighter. It is cheaper as well
Design wise, there are a few changes compared to the all-wheel-drive Huracan. It gets a new front bumper with larger air intakes, new rear diffuser which works with the spoiler lip to improve air flow at the rear of the car. The car rides on a new design 19 inch alloy wheels with Pirelli PZero rubber on them.
The main change is its powertrain. The Huracan LP 580-2 is powered by a 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V!0 engine producing 580 bhp and 540 Nm of torque. It is mated to a Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The transmission is tuned for faster shifts and it now comes with launch control. The electronic power steering or the optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS), Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI), steering and stability control systems and Magneto Rheological Suspension (MRS) have all been tuned for rear wheel drive behavior. The ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management) has also been calibrated for rear wheel drive. It has three modes: STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. The system provides oversteering characteristics, which is what many enthusiasts want.
The RWD Huracan gets aerodynamic changes
The weight of the supercar is also reduced compared to the all-wheel-drive Huracan. At 1,389 kgs (dry) it it 33 kgs lighter. The power to weight ratio is 2.4 kg/hp. The car also gets a new setup for springs and anti-roll bars.
All these changes show in the performance of the car. It accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.4 seconds and 200 kmph in 10.1 seconds. It goes on to a top speed of 320 kmph. The RWD Huracan returns 8.4 kms to a litre of fuel and has a carbon dioxide emission of 278 g/km.
The LP 580-2 gets all the equipment that is available on the regular Huracan along with the Lamborghini’s personalization program Ad Personam. It also gets the latest Lamborghini Infotainment System II, with a 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT instrument panel.
The interiors are similar to the regular Huracan
“The Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 continues the Lamborghini tradition of pure, visionary and technology-driven models,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The rear-wheel drive model fits perfectly into our Huracán family, appealing to those wanting an even more intense driving experience, or who currently drive other rear-wheel drive marques and aspire to driving a Lamborghini. This is the purest expression of a Lamborghini to date, with class-leading technological refinements. It is a serious car for serious drivers: it is maximum driving fun.”
The RWD Huracan has been priced at 150,000 Euros, which is less than its four-wheel drive sibling. Globally, the Huracan is available as an AWD Coupe, AWD Spider (which was launched at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show) and the RWD Coupe which is being shown at the ongoing Los Angeles Motor Show. Only the AWD Coupe is available in India. It has been priced at INR 3.43 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The other models are expected to be launched at a later stage. The Lamborghini Huracan competes against the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari 488 GTB and the McLaren 650S.
All the components linked to the driving sensation has received upgrades. It allows the driver to easily oversteer now
