Jaguar has trademarked the I-Type and the I-Pace names, which indicates that they are two new electric cars coming from the British company. Applications to trademark the I-Pace name was filed in December while the I-Type name was trademarked in January.

The I-Pace could look similar to the new F-Pace, which is Jaguar’s first SUV

We still do not know what the I-Type will be. It could be an all-electric sports car or an electric version of the F-Type. The name could also be used for electric versions of its sedans, the XE, XF and the XJ. Not much of the I-Type is known as of now, other than the fact that it will be the company’s second electric car.

Their first electric car will be the I-Pace SUV, which will come in 2017. The design cues for the SUV could be taken from the C-X75 hypercar and it is expected to have a range of nearly 500 kms. Other than this, details on the I-Pace is scarce. A reveal could be slated for the Paris Motor Show in October this year. It will be the company’s second SUV. The I-Pace will compete with the new Tesla Model-X, Audi e-tron (coming in 2018) and an electric version of the Volvo XC90 (coming in 2019).

The Range Rover was the most luxurious SUV in the world until the Bentley Bentayga came late last year

At the same time, Land Rover trademarked the Velar name. The name was earlier used on prototypes of the original Range Rover in 1969. This suggests that the name could make a comeback to an upcoming version of the luxury SUV. This could be the very expensive and much more luxurious version to take on the Bentayga SUV and the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV.
