India’s car and two-wheeler market saw a robust growth in sales in August 2009.
Maruti Suzuki posted a 42 per cent growth to sell 84,808 units, Hyundai Motor India sold 49,521 cars, an 11 per cent increase over the same month last year.
“What really helped sales were festivals such as Ganesh Chathurthi in western India, Janmashtami in the North and Onam in the South. This time, the Alto did exceptionally well selling 22,000 units. All the new models also did well. The newly launched Estilo clocked 3,000 units while the A-Star sold 3,500 units in the domestic market. The Ritz notched up 5,500 units,” said Mr Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki.
“This time, in terms of regions, Kerala clocked the highest sales at nearly 10,000 units, thanks to Onam. The festival season has begun on the right note and with Diwali in mid-October, things will look even better. Exports are also growing and we expect the scrappage bonus scheme in Europe to last till December,” he added.
