Pravin Shah, chief executive automotive division and international operations of M&M has confirmed that the Mahindra e20 will launch in the UK by June this year. The old Reva was sold as the G-Wiz in the UK, where it was the best-selling electric car for some time. The company is trying to target the sub-10,000 pounds electric vehicles market in the UK.
UK will get the 4-door version of the electric car
The e20 that will be launched in the UK will be a 4-door version that was spotted testing Bangalore last month. Everything will be similar to the current car except for the length of the vehicle. It will be a little longer due to the addition of two extra doors. It is unknown if it will get a better powertrain or new technologies like Mahindra’s Quick2Charge technology.
The 2-door hatchback has an electric motor powered by a 48V Lithium-ion battery. The power output is 25.5 bhp and 53.9 Nm of torque. The car rides on 13 inch Tubeless Low Rolling Resistance tyres. It has a top speed of 81 kmph and a range of 120 kms (under test conditions). It takes 5 hours to completely charge the battery.
The car comes equipped with an electric ORVM, Driver Information System, Infotainment System, Reverse Parking Camera and Assist and a High-End JBL music system with 4 Speakers & 2 tweeters with CD, DVD, MP3, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. You can also get an app for the car on your smartphone which allows you to lock or unlock the car remotely and even switch on the air conditioning.
The Mahindra E20 starts at INR 5.96 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 7.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Bengaluru plant, where the electric car is manufactured, has a capacity to manufacture 30,000 units annually and this is sufficient to meet the demands from the European market as well
