Auto Expo 2016: Mercedes Benz GLC and S-Class cabriolet uncovered

Mercedes Benz India today unveiled the Mercedes Benz GLC and S-Class Cabriolet to its Indian audience at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016.

The Mercedes Benz S-Class cabriolet is the sixth variant of the S-Class family and is powered by a 4663cc engine that produces 455hp of peak power, staggering 700 Nm of torque and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The S-Class cabriolet will be soft-top convertible and  the roof can be opened or closed in approximately 20 seconds at speeds up to 60km/h. The S-Class Cabriolet comes with THERMOTRONIC intelligent climate control system which promises to keep occupants comfortable regardless of whether the roof is open or close.

The Mercedes Benz GLC is an SUV based on the C-Class with the front showing clear similarities between the two cars. The company has not unveiled the specifications for the Indian model. The GLC stands at 4,656mm long, 1,644mm high, 2,096mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 2,874mm. The boot has a luggage capacity of 550 litres and, with the rear seats folded, 1,600 litres. The Mercedes Benz GLC will be pitted against the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.

“The Auto Expo has today evolved into a global motor show and represents the burgeoning Indian auto industry. We chose this platform to showcase the best products from our global portfolio for our discerning Indian customers, partners and brand enthusiasts. The GLC and the S-Class cabriolet are two of the most successful global products without a  predecessor in India and we will be introducing them later this year” said Roland Folger, managing director and CEO, Mercedes -Benz India.

“While, the GLC launch will boost our SUV offering further, the S-Class Cabriolet’s addition will bring a new dimension to the top-end luxury Cabriolets in India,” he added.
