The next generation Skoda Superb has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 22.68 lakhs Ex-showroom, Mumbai. The car is more luxurious than its predecessor and is based on the new MQB platform from the Volkswagen Group.
The third generation Skoda Superb has been finally launched in India and is all set to take the luxury game to a whole new level. The car is based on the MQB platform that underpins most of the entry luxury cars from the Volkswagen Group like the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia. It is about 80mm longer than its predecessor and is much more spacious on the insides too given the longer wheelbase. It is available in 2 trim levels namely Style and Laurin & Klement, and a total of 4 exterior colour options.
The front is dominated by the butterfly grille and the chiseled headlights. The side has a lot of glass area and a silhouette that is closer to a coupe than a luxury sedan. The rear again looks sharp with the LED taillights and a neatly designed bumper. On the insides is where thing have changed the most and this cabin feels more luxurious than anything before. There are wood panels, piano black finished surfaces and the central infotainment display steal the show on the insides. Although the interior looks similar to the Octavia we are not complaining as the quality of materials is top notch. The boot of this car is gigantic with 625 litres of it available at your disposal.
The 2016 Skoda Superb is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that develops 177BHP and is mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The engine promises brisk acceleration along with decent fuel economy. There is also a 1.8-litre TSI that develops 180BHP and can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. The petrol delivers a mileage of 14.5Km/L while the diesel is rated to deliver 18.19Km/L under standard testing conditions. On the safety front it gets a total of 8 airbags, ABS, ESP, Driver Alert System and Traction Control System.
