Mahindra To Increase Production Of The TUV 300

Ever since it was launched in September, Mahindra has received a lot of booking for its compact sub-4 metre SUV, the TUV 300.

Ever since it was launched in September, Mahindra has received a lot of booking for its compact sub-4 metre SUV, the TUV 300. They have got nearly 16,000 bookings for the vehicle and nearly half of them are for automatic transmission. Mahindra is producing 4,00 units every month and this has increased the waiting period to 4-6 weeks. Mahindra plans to reduce the waiting time by increasing production of the TUV 300 t0 around 6,000 units per month.

Pravin Shah, president and chief executive of automotive at Mahindra & Mahindra confirmed that the company is increasing production of the SUV to meet demands. He said, “TUV 300 continues to have a good pull in the market. We saw a good rush during the festive season and the demand is sustaining, so we are ramping up the capacity. We had provisioned for 5,000 units a month, by adding more people we should be able to take up the capacity to 5500 to 6000 units, it is a work in progress.”

The TUV 300 is a new sub-4 metre compact SUV from Mahindra. TUV stands for ‘Tough Utility Vehicle’. The much awaited SUV was launched on September 10th. It comes in three variants, T4, T6 and T8. The T8 comes equipped with two airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors, all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear wiper with defogger, follow me home headlamps, front fog lamps, and a 2-DIN audio system with steering mounted controls, voice command, AUX, USB, AM, FM, MP3, Bluetooth and a CD player.

It is powered by a 1.5 litre, three-cylinder mHawk diesel engine producing 84 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The SUV returns 18.49 kms to a litre of fuel. The AMT transmission is available only on the T6 and the T8 variants.

The Mahindra TUV 300 starts at INR 6.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 9.20 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The two AMT equipped cars are the most expensive. But it looks like customers do not mind paying a lot more for convenience. The SUV competes with Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Hyundai Creta.

The German company has confirmed that they will be launching three new BMW i models.

Not surprisingly, the first of these three models is a convertible version of the BMW i8, called the BMW i8 Roadster. The i8 Roadster was first shown as a concept back in 2012 at the Beijing Motor Show. They again showed a new concept at the 2016 CES (Consumer Electronic Show) held in Las Vegas in January. Powering the roadster will be the same powertrain that does duty on the coupe. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre, three cylinder petrol engine working in tandem with electric motors. The combined power output will be around 357 bhp. The car is expected to accelerate from a standstill to a 100 kmph in around 4.4 seconds and go on to a top speed of 250 kmph.

The second car will be a new model of the BMW i3 electric city car. Just like the current model, it comes in a pure electric form or with a range extender. The battery capacity will be increased by 50%, which means there will be a significant increase in the range of the vehicle. The overall design of the city car will also be new.

The third BMW i car comes as a surprise. Its an all-new vehicle that will be called the BMW i NEXT. Not a lot of information of the car is available now but Harald Kruger, chairman of the board of management at BMW AG, described it as the “new spearhead of innovation and technology”. “It will enable us to take BMW i to the next level,” said Kruger. He also added that it “will cover all aspects relevant for future cars, including autonomous driving, digital connectivity and intelligent lightweight construction as well as the next generation of electro-mobility.”

The wait is finally over. After waiting for years, we finally have the powerful Apache here. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V will feature a single pot  197.75 cc engine cooled with the help of air cum oil cooler. The engine is tuned to deliver 20.23 hp at 8,500 rpm and 18.1  Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The transmission is going to be 5-speed, uncommon for these higher capacity bikes which use a six-speed gearbox. 0-60 kmph comes up in 3.9 seconds and the bike tips the scale at 140 kgs.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V comes with sharp lines all across the body and looks every bit the street fighter. The headlight looks stooped which reminds me slightly of the Kawasaki Z800. The bike incorporates LED DRL’s in the headlight assembly to give it that modern zing. It features traditional suspension and an under-belly pan which is synonymous with the Apache. The fuel tank has shrouds which has been incorporated from the TVS Draken concept seen at the last Delhi Auto Expo. Tyres come with17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and petal disc brakes are once again there for stopping the most powerful TVS yet. There is an additional safety of ABS which can be turned off by a flick of the switch. The engine and exhaust have been finished in matte black with the exhaust and utilises mono shock suspension for the first time ever. The RTR 200 4V comes with split seat, pillion grab rails with LED taillamps and faux honeycomb grille on the side.

The instrument console is fully digital and gives plenty of information in an easily readable layout. The digital display sees tachometer running the length of the display from left to right. The left most space has the clock with the centre showing the speed in big bold digits with the current active mode being seen below it. The odometer sits on the right side. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V has a 12-litre fuel tank and the company claims that it will return XX kilometres per litre. The nearest rival to the TVS Apache RTR 4V is the KTM Duke 200.The company is expected to launch a slightly more powerful fuel injected variant soon.

Lamborghini has confirmed that the upcoming Urus SUV will ditch the naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines in favour of a turbocharged V8 engine.

Lamborghini has confirmed that the upcoming Urus SUV will ditch the naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines in favour of a turbocharged V8 engine. The Urus will be the company’s second SUV after the LM002 that came out in 1986. That SUV was powered by a V12. The V8 that will be powering the Urus will be newly developed and will not be found in any other car.

R&D boss Maurizio Reggiani said: “In acceleration and in off-road capability it is really important to have a high level of torque, in order to move as quickly as possible and in an off-road situation to have the ability to come out of a critical situation easily. We decided that a turbo for a super sport SUV is the best choice. The engine must be light and powerful and with the capability with this torque at low revs to allow the car to be ‘elastic’ in every type of condition. On the track the car was able to demonstrate all of those capabilities in terms of the engine and the chassis control. Next spring we will be able to fully assess the off-road capabilities of the car. This engine is not used by anybody else, only for Lamborghini. To be the most powerful in the class it must have something that is dedicated to our brand. It must be able to produce the right amount power and torque, but do that in conjunction with the right transmission and chassis control that makes it a true Lamborghini.”

CEO Stephan Winkelmann added: “In early autumn I drove a prototype for the first time on a racetrack and the performance was great. I was astonished; it was more than any of us expected, which is a car that is very powerful but easy to drive, with very good handling, and also in terms of driveability and comfort, it has a limousine feel in an SUV. This is very important to us. It will be a true Lamborghini because it will be the fastest among the SUVs. We will have the most powerful engine and will have the car that is going to be a real super sports SUV. It has to keep the balance between matching the DNA of the brand, that is being a car that is really driveable and also have a lot of off-road capability, but the driving on the roads is much more important.”

Speaking of the design of the car, he said: “It’s a major step. We are almost done with the exterior design. There are minor adjustments. If you see the car you will recall the red concept we showed at Beijing, but it now has more roominess and an evolved design; it is more state-of-the-art compared with that concept”. It will be instantly recognizable as a Lamborghini and from the concept.

He also added that the company is also considering a plug-in hybrid variant of the SUV at a later stage. He also confirmed that unlike the Huracan, the Aventador and the Urus will strictly remain four-wheel drive. The Aventador needs all-wheel drive to help put down its immense power while the Urus will need it to retain its off-road capability.

The Lamborghini Urus will be based on the new Audi Q7 and the Bentley Bentayga. It will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The Italian government has given a number of “tax breaks and other benefits” to Lamborghini to ensure that the production of the SUV stays in Italy. The plant will grow from 80,000 square metres to around 150,000 square metres and will employ 500 more employees.

The Urus is expected to be revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show or if possible, at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Pricing will be similar to that of the Huracan. Lamborghini hopes to sell around 3000 units annually.

The 2016 Audi Q7 gets a 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor that develops around 268BHP and is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox that is enough to propel the car from a standstill to 100Km/hr in just around 7 seconds. This makes it almost as fast as the previous generation model that was powered by the 4.2-litre V8 diesel. Another way to recognize this as a fast Audi is the badging that with its new nomenclature reads ’45 TDI’. The new Audi Q7 is packed to the brim with safety features such as Predictive Efficiency Assistant, Turning Assistant and Exit Warning System which indicates vehicles or cyclists approaching from the rear before the door is opened, adaptive cruise control, multicollision brake assist, night vision assistant, active lane assist and the list just goes on and on.

The exteriors of the car are all new and this time around looks much more polished and sophisticated than the brute looking previous generation car. The interiors too are all new with a high quality dashboard that gets Audi’s new Virtual Cockpit, Audi connect Telematics and a brilliant sounding Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System. Other features on this new flagship from Audi is the Matrix LED headlights and Quattro all wheel drive system.

The next generation of the Porsche Panamera will lose all the small buttons on its centre console and will be getting touch controls instead. The new touch controls on the black centre console look spectacular. The car also gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a new 3-spoke steering wheel that seems to have been taken from the 918 Spyder hypercar.

The luxury sports car will get a slightly tweaked silhouette. It will also get new front bumpers, new headlamps and new tail lamps. The car will have a sportier shape and is expected to be longer than the current model. Design cues could be taken from the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept that was shown at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. There are also reports that the car will be made available in three body styles: 5-door coupe, 5-door Sport Turismo and a long wheelbase version.

The second generation of the Panamera will be based on a new MSB platform which uses aluminium and some composites. This will make it much lighter than the current car. Powering the car will be V6 and V8 petrol engines. Just like the current car, a V6 diesel and a hybrid car will also be launched. A full electric might also be launched at a later stage. This was shown as the Mission E Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Porsche will launchthe new Panamera at the Geneva Motor Show next year and it will come to India by the end of 2016 or in 2017.

The Porsche Panamera is a four-door luxury sports sedan built by the German manufacturer. It has coupe-like styling. The production version of the car was first shown at the Auto Shanghai International Automobile Show in 2009. It received a facelift in 2013. It has quite a few engine and power output options. Four-wheel drive option is also available.

The current generation Panamera which is sold in India is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel, 3.6 litre V6 petrol and a 4.8 litre V8 petrol.  Power output is between 300 bhp and 570 bhp. A 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is also available in the hybrid variant. Transmission options are a 7-speed PDK gearbox and an 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. Power is sent to the rear wheels or all four wheels.

The Porsche Panamera starts at INR 1.16 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 2.34 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It competes with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, Maserati Quattroporte and the Aston Martin Rapide.

Volkswagen Group has recalled a total of 8 lakh units of the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne SUVs globally due to a foot pedal design issue.

Around 8 lakh units of the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne have been affected by the safety recall due to an issue in the foot pedal

According to Volkswagen, a clip could be loose on the bearing bracket for the pedals. Repeated usage of the brake pedal could dislodge it and that could affect the braking performance. This could result in a crash. No accidents have been reported till now. The company found the issue during an internal check.

The issue has affected 4,09,477 units of the Porsche Cayenne SUV and 3,91,000 units of the Volkswagen Touareg SUV. The cars have been manufactured between 2011 and 2016. Owners of all the affected cars will be contacted by their local dealers and the repair work will be carried out in less than half an hour.

The two SUVs are based on the same platform. The platform is also shared with the Audi A7, but it looks like the Audi does not have any problem.

Volkswagen’s flagship SUV was on sale in the country between 2012 and 2014 and there are few vehicles running around on Indian roads. The Porsche Cayenne on the other hand, is a very popular SUVs and it has become a common sight on our roads. The number of Indian cars affected still remains unclear. The Porsche Cayenne is available with a range of V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines. It starts at INR 1.04 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and it goes up to INR 1.78 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Although it is based on the same problem as the other two, the issus does not seem to have hit the Q7

Volkswagen is trying to chart a different path in the aftermath of the emissions scandal and has introduced Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze convertible concept at the  Geneva Motor Show.

Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, explains: “2016 will be a year of new beginnings for Volkswagen. With the T-Cross we are providing a first look ahead to Volkswagen models to come. We will in particular be significantly developing our range of SUVs and in future offering an SUV in every core segment.”

The T-Cross Breeze convertible concept is powered by  1.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI gasoline engine (TSI) that has a stop-start system and recuperation mode which makes 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque from just 1,500 rpm. The TSI engine drives the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.  The 1,250 kg SUV convertible sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just 10.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 kmph. At tape, it measures 4133 mm in length, 1798 mm in width and 1563 mm in height when the soft top is closed with a 2565 mm wheelbase.

T-Cross Breeze gets a remarkably wide radiator grille and narrow LED headlights with DRL’s and large LED rings around the foglights. It gets double character lines on the side along with 19-inch wheels. The rear end of the convertible SUV, meanwhile, is dominated by the extremely wide trunk lid with integrated LED taillights.   Touch-sensitive surfaces and newly developed “by-wire” solutions replace conventional switches and buttons and a 300 W BeatsAudio sound system along with Apple CarPlay.  In parallel to the T-Cross Breeze, the Geneva Motor Show will also see the debut of the comprehensively overhauled up!, featuring a technically similar sound system to the BeatsAudio technology shown in the T-Cross Breeze.

With the T-Cross Breeze, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan XL, mid-size SUV and Touareg, the new and growing Volkswagen SUV range is taking shape making a compelling line-up of SUV’s from the German manufacturer.

1500 PS Koenigsegg Regera storms in at Geneva Motor Show 2015

Regera in Swedish translates into “To Reign”.

Regera in Swedish translates into “To Reign”. And, that is essentially what the Koenigsegg’s second ‘Megacar’, which made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show has been designed to do. Slated for production, this will be the fastest accelerating, most powerful production car ever .

The Koenigsegg Regera is company’s second Mega Car which is even more powerful than the One:1.

Powered by a complex drivetrain which includes an internal combustion engine and new Direct Drive system, this mega car has 1,500 horsepower under its hood. The conventional powersource is the highly reliable drysumped twin turbo, DOHC, 5.0 liter V8 engine which also powers many other Koenigsegg products. And the new Direct Drive system is the sophisticated bit.

The Swedish ‘Hyper-Car’ expert has confirmed a production run of 80 Regeras.

The new Direct Drive technology can be termed as a replacement for the conventional transmission system. It has no gears or CVT like elements and manages to deliver power to wheels directly via electric motors. This part explains the name. More importantly, it does not loose energy during power transmission which a conventional gearbox does.

For its electrical requirements, it is fitted with a 9 kWh 620 Volt, flooded liquid cooled battery pack.

The three motors which constitutes the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD), work in tandem with the V8. The pack of three is actually the “most powerful electrical motor set-up in production car history”. And please do not consider it to be a hybrid, Christian von Koenigsegg isn’t a fan of those and does not intend his latest Mega Car to be associated with the tag. Coming back to the KDD, two YASA axial flux motors serve the purpose of power delivery at the rear axle – one for each wheel. The third motor is integrated in the crankshaft which gives torque-fill, helps with electrical generation and as a functional starter motor.

The combination of the electrical and combustion power translates into 1500 BHp and over 2000 Nm of torque. Records, well it is all ready to make some of its own and reign them and then probably wait for another Koenigsegg to overtake. 3.2 seconds between 150 to 250 km/h and under 20 seconds from 0 to 400 hm/h. We presume that the reign is going to be long as we don’t see any car getting anywhere close to these figures.

There have been many limited edition runs within the Aventador family like the Aventador J which was a one of one, the Venenoand the most recent is the Centenariowhich was launched at the Geneva Motor Show to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Lamborghini’s founder Ferrucio Lamborghini. It is priced at $1.95 million and only 40 of them will be made all of which have already been sold. For comparison’s sake, the regular Lamborghini Aventador costs $399,500.

Veneno Roadster launched at CES Las Vegas

Even after 6 years of existence, the Aventador specs feel anything but dates. This famous Italian bull generates 690 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque from its mid-mounted 6.0L V12 engine and it needs just 2.9 seconds to sprint from naught to 100 km/h and can go up to a top speed of 350 km/h.  Power is sent to all four-wheel by a 7-speed robotized single clutch gearbox. The Aventador Super Veloce is slightly faster with 740hp and 690Nm of torque arriving at 5500 rpm. It reaches 100 kmph in 2.8 seconds!

Most importantly it gets a 6-speed manual transmission which will be loved by people who swear by stick shift. No automatic transmissions available as an option either!! The 911 R with a power-to-weight ratio of 360bhp per tonne, or 13bhp per tonne more than the GT3 RS and does a 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of over 320 kmph.

The reworked chassis features ceramic composite brakes with 410mm discs up front and 390mm discs at the rear. Its wheel and tyre package feature 20-inch rims with 245-section tyres up front and 305-section at the rear. carbon fibre bonnet, carbon fibre front arches and a magnesium roof put it on strict weight saving measures along with the removal of the rear bench seat and a titanium exhaust system. It tips the scale at 1370kg, a full 50kg less than the GT3 RS. Even the air conditioning and infotainment system are optional. There is a retractable spoiler in place unlike the GT3’s fixed wing.

Porsche says the new 991R is ‘arguably the ultimate road-focused 911 in the 53-year history of the model’.

Pagani has gone from sports car to exotic to downright demigod in no time courtesy a set of limit handicapped vehicles. By that I mean when it comes to speed, grunt, beauty in design and cut throat performance, few can achieve what Pagani has. Now they have revealed their latest monster, the Pagani Zonda Revolucion.

Powering the Zonda Revolucion is a 6.0-litre V12 made by none other than Mercedes AMG. Power output comes in at a jaw dislocating 777 hp at 8000 rpm and maximum torque is a pothole birthing 730 Nm @5000 rpm . The car uses 12 Stage – Bosch Motorsport traction control system. The power is mated to a XTRAC 672 bespoke magnesium casing gearbox, 6 speed sequential dog gearchange with Automac Engineering AMT system. The revolucion is brought to a halt by 4 CCMR ventilated Brembo disks, a hydraulic power brake; 12 Stage – Bosch Motorsport Race ABS.The body rides on 19” front and 20” rear forged alloy APP wheels wrapped around by Pirelli P Zero Zonda Revolution tyres.

Performance stats are horrificly brilliant. 0-100 km/h comes in 2.6 seconds and the Revolucion goes up to just under 350 km/h. The car weighs in at just around 1070 kgs when dry courtesy of a plethora or carbon fibre that has made its way from the chassis to the seats. The car is unbelievably fast, but most current Zonda owners or testers would agree that this is not the ideal car to live with every day. Creature comforts are done away with as Pagani has made to mistakes in showing their focus of being the ultimate performance brand.

Many have been asking if Pagani will make its way to India. Unfortunately, the answer is no for now as our sub continent is not a market lucrative enough for this kind of vehicle. There be some assistance in terms of imports in the near future, but even though they aren’t a volume sales brand, the road conditions in India are always a deterrent for buyers who can afford them to go ahead and shell out the cash.

Earlier, Horacio Pagani had confirmed that a more potent Huayra would be built. He said that it would be based on the coupe and will be offered only to existing Huayra customers. Only 20 units of the more potent car would be built and it will not take the form of a track only car like the Zonda R. It would be powered by the same 6.0-litre AMG V12 that is found on the Huayra. Power output would be boosted to around 750 hp.

Launched at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Huayrasucceeded the famous Zonda. The name means “God of the winds” in Quechua, which is the official language of the Inca empire. It is powered by a 6.0 litre Mercedes-AMG M158 V12 twin-Turbo producing 730 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed sequential gearbox and power is sent to the rear wheels. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 362 kmph. The car was one of the first to use active aerodynamics. It has four flaps on all four corners. The result is one of the fastest cars on a race track. It set the fastest lap at the Top Gear test track. Its time was 1:13.8. It still holds that record. The mid-engined car won the “The Hypercar of the Year 2012″ by Top Gear magazine. The expensive vehicle was limited to just 100 units due to an agreement with engine suppliers Mercedes-AMG. It was sold out earlier this year.

Ssangyong, a Korean car manufacturer which was bought by Mahindra in 2010 is considering building a manufacturing plant in China according to Mahindra’s Executive Director Pawan Goenka.

“China is easier to look at right now because Ssangyong already has a presence there. We have some traction and need to ramp up our products for local manufacturing,” Goenka told Reuters. “China is here and now, US is the future. We are still deciding what it takes for us to launch in the US.” Building cars in China would mean lower prices for Ssangyong, thus helping to kick off the demand. The brand sold around 2,460 cars last year, down from 11,976 in 2014. “Yes, right now China is down, but if we can get the right pricing then I think we should be able to benefit there,” he said.

Ssangyong has been under pressure to scale up operations outside its home market of South Korea after the Indian conglomerate spent 522.5 billion won (US$432.35 million) in acquiring the company. Since then Mahindra has pumped in 1 trillion won (US$827.47 million) in order to revive its flagging fortunes. Last year, Ssangyong Motor posted 61.9 billion won (US$50.9 million) in net loss, a 21.65 percent rise from a year earlier. Currently, Ssangyong’s Pyeongtaek plant produces 150,000 cars annually and to gain a bigger foothold in the Chinese SUV market at competitive rates, the company has decided on having a manufacturing base there  for better economies of scale.

Last year it sold just 2,460 vehicles in China, down from 11,976 in 2014. The company plans a push for the Tivoli compact SUV which will be the volumes product for Ssangyong. The company is gearing up for launch in the American market by 2020 when the SIV-2 concept becomes a reality. SIV-2 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The company is also expected to bring the Tivoli to the Indian market sometime soon.

1. Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang was recently unveiled in India and will launched in the second quarter of the year. It will be the first muscle car to be put on sale in the country. India will get the Mustang GT which is powered by a 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ V8 engine developing 435 bhp and 542 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The car will accelerate from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds. 50 years after launch, Ford finally decided to make the Mustang with RHD. It is expected to cost INR 50 to 60 lakhs. The Mustang does not have any direct rivals in India but it will compete against the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG.

The GT-R will be put on sale in India shortly after the Auto Expo, 8 years after it made its global debut. The 2016 Nissan R35 GT-R is a two-door coupe that is powered a 3.8-litre V6 engine. In the top of the range Nismo model, it produces 600 bhp and 652 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch sequential transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. It accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in just 3 seconds and goes on to an electronically limited top speed of 307 kmph. It comes equipped with all the latest gizmos. This high-tech car has been nicknamed as the “supercar killer” and “Godzilla”. and it competes against the Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT, McLaren 570S Coupe, Acura NSX, Audi R8, Jaguar F-Type and the Aston Martin Vantage.

1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet

With the C217, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the first convertible version of the S-Class luxury car in 44 years. The previous was the W111 series which succeeded the famous Ponton series. The new car is based on the recently launched S-Class Coupe. Being an S-Class, it comes loaded with all the latest luxury and technologies. It is powered by a 4.7-litre V8 engine producing 455 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission. An AMG is also available. It is powered by an AMG 5.5 litre biturbo V8 producing 585 hp and 900 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. Four wheel drive option is available only in left-hand drive cars. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will rival the Rolls-Royce Dawn and the Bentley Continental GTC.

Toyota

Launched in 1997, the Prius is known as the world’s first hybrid car. With every new generation of the car, Toyota improves the fuel efficiency by 10%. This new generation is no different and fuel efficiency has gone up by another 10%. It is now around 40 kmpl. It is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine producing 98 hp and 142 Nm of torque. It works in tandem with a Permanent magnet AC synchronous motor that provides more power. The power developed is sent to the front wheels via an automatic Electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). Toyota also claims to have improved the driving character of the boring hybrid. The Toyota Prius’s main rival is the BMW i3.

The AMG GT is not as brash as its predecessor, the SLS AMG, in the way it drives and in its design

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a 2-door, 2-seater grand coupe that was presented in September last year and unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show the following month. This is the successor to the SLS AMG and, after the SLS, it is the second car to be developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. Internationally, it is available in two variants – the AMG GT and the AMG GT S. Only the AMG GT S is on sale in India.

It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine producing 510 bhp

The AMG GT S is powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 510 bhp at 6250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque between 1750 rpm and 4750 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed 7G-DCT automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The supercar accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and goes on to an electronically limited top speed of 310 kmph. The car returns 10.52 kms to a litre of fuel. The supercar rides on 19-inch alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear.

The AMG GT S has been priced at INR 2.39 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). In India, it competes against the Porsche 911, Audi R8, Jaguar F-type Coupe and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Globally, it also competes against the Honda NSX, McLaren 570S Coupe and the Nissan GTR.

An updated 762 hp Tesla Model S has been announced.

An updated 762 hp Tesla Model S has been announced. The update is for the P85D variant of the Model S that is powered by two motors.

The Tesla P85D is currently the fastest Tesla available.

Tesla showcased its all new four-wheel drive Model S variant last year. The electric supersaloon made use of two motors that produced a combined power of a whopping 691 hp and a tarmac shredding 931 Nm of torque. The dual motor system allowed the Model S to make a 0-100 time of 3.3 seconds, a number that matched the McLaren F1 supercar. An all new 90 kWh battery pack will allow the AWD Model S variant to be pushed even further. The American carmaker stated that with the new battery pack installed, the sedan gains an additional 71 hp bringing the total upto a staggering 762 hp. However, these numbers are only accessible if the customer opts for the performance package.

A new RWD base variant of the Model S has also been announced.

Tesla also announced a new “Ludicrous” mode that will up acceleration even further courtesy of an in-house developed fuse that handles far more amperage than was previously possible. The choice of words best describes the power that is unlocked in this setting. Tesla states that with the new fuse installed, the P85D (AWD Model S) can hit the 100 kmph mark in an unbelievable 2.8 seconds. To put that into perspective, while the force of gravity pulls objects at a constant acceleration rate of 9.81m/s 2, the P90D (the 762 hp Model S) accelerates at a whopping 9.92m/s 2(1.01G). P85D owners can purchase this upgrade for  $5000.

Tesla has become a major player in the electric car industry.

Tesla also announced a more accessible base variant of the Model S and has also stated that its Model X crossover will begin deliveries within the next two months. The rear wheel drive base variant Model S70 is powered by a 328 hp motor and provides 370 km of range. At launch, the Model X will be the world’s first all electric crossover. TTesla is yet to reveal any details about the pricing of its upcoming model. However, the Model X can be reserved for $5000.

The Tesla Model X electric crossover will be the American car maker’s next big launch.

The Tesla Model 3 will be unveiled in March 2016.

The Tesla Model 3 will be unveiled in March 2016. The Model 3 will serve as the American electric vehicle maker’s third model in its lineup after the Model X.

Currently, the only model on offer by the American car maker is the Model S.

The Tesla Model 3 has been in the works for quite some time now. Codenamed Tesla BlueStar, the car will target the the compact executive sedan market currently populated by cars such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C- Class and the Audi A4.  Most details of the upcoming electric sedan remain elusive. However, the Model 3 is expected to provide upto 200 miles (320 km) of range and will be priced somewhere around the 35000 USD mark (before incentives). The surprisingly low cost of the upcoming EV will allow Tesla to aggressively compete against its more mainstream rivals.

The Tesla Model X will be a full-size crossover.

Unlike the Model X and Model S however, Elon Musk stated that the EV producer’s upcoming sedan will not sport radical styling. The Tesla CEO stated that due to the development of both the Model X and the Gigafactory, the manufacturer may not invest a great deal of money on the first generation Model 3’s styling. Despite this however, the Model 3 is expected to significantly differ from Tesla’s current range in terms of design. The entry level Tesla sedan is expected to make its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Rumors suggest that Tesla may work on a crossover variant of the Model 3 as well. Before the Model 3’s launch, Tesla will be unveiling the Model X, the automaker’s first crossover. The full-size crossover is expected launch within this year.

Everyone looking for an affordable tourer bike in true sense, look no further. The Benelli TRK 502 is here. The Italian company unveiled it in India today at the Delhi Auto Expo.

Benelli TRK 502 is a true adventure tourer which has been positioned under 600GT. It gets a 499.6cc twin-cylinder liquid cooled engine that is equipped with a electronic injection, dual overhead camshaft and 4 valves per cylinder, churning out 48 PS at 8,500rpm while the maximum torque of 45 Nm .The engine is mated to 6-speed gearbox. Tyres will be provided by Pirelli, Pirelli Angel rated at 120/70-17 up front and 160/60-17 at the rear which will be wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels.Baking will be done by dual discs measuring 320 mm in diameter and two-piston floating caliper while the rear will get a 260mm single disc with a twin-piston calliper.

Just before the Model X is due to be released, a prototype has been spied testing again. For the first time, the spy video shows the SUVs falcon doors in action. The falcon doors work similar to the gullwing doors. The gullwing door, which opens upwards, will be hinged on the roof. The main difference between the gullwing door and the falcon door is that the falcon doors have another hinge mid-way. This would give it added maneuverability and it can be easily used in tight parking spaces.

The Model X was first shown at Tesla’s design studios in Los Angeles in 2012. It is based on the Model S sedan platform. Production of the Model X was due to start by the end of 2013 but was later delayed. It will get a similar drivetrain to the Model S but it will be slightly slower since it is heavier. The top end ‘Signature Series’ is powered by a 259 bhp electric motor powering the front wheels and a 503 bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels. The SUV accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 250 kmph. As an option, owners can choose a Ludicrous Speed Upgrade that reduces the acceleration time to 3.3 seconds. It has a range of 400 kms. Power is sourced from a 90 kWh battery pack. The Model X gets features like an autopilot self-parking system and heated and cooled leather seats. Customers also have the option of choosing between six seats or seven seats. The Model X SUV will be built alongside the Model S sedan at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.

The Tesla Model X will be launched later tonight at 8 pm (Pacific time). It will rival the Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid, Porsche Cayenne plug-in hybrid and the upcoming all-electric SUVs from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and maybe even Jaguar.

Based in Palo Alto, California, the company specializes in manufacturing electric luxury cars. Their first car was the Tesla Roadster. The Model Sis the only model from Tesla on sale currently. The Model X will soon join it. The CEO of the American company is Elon Musk who is also co-founded it in 2003.

Ford India unveiled the iconic Mustang in India just before the 2016 Auto Expo and had the beast on display at the biennial event. The company has launched an all new line up since mid last year and therefore had the youngest lineup of cars here at the event. We spoke to Mr. Anurag Mehrotra, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India on his plans forward with the brand new line up on sale in India. Read our conversation with him below.

Q) What is Ford’s present market share as off today?

A) We would be about 3.3 percent of the market.

Q) Will you be retailing the parts on your website?

A) I would love to go back and take a look at that if it is possible. It happens in the US and is definitely worth looking at.

Q) All the effort that is being going into the sales and services what kind of growth are you expecting?

A) I wont answer that but our ambition is very high but I have to do it in a profitable manner. If you go back and look at Ford we get something called our statements profitable growth for all so for us those are very operative words. So profitable growth is very important. So what is going to drive us is volume but at the same time I have to ensure it is done in a profitable manner. For that I need to have high levels of localisation I need to have phenomenal customer experience, I need to have network without exception.

Q) What is the localisation level for the Endeavour? Will it be localised in the future?

A) It is a CKD, so it will be sub 20 percent. Future localisation is a constant endeavour (no pun intended).

Q) Now since you’ll are getting the Mustang, are there similar plans for your pickup trucks as well?

A) We honestly have looked at that but the current market has pickups at price points where it will be very difficult to get a product in. We continue to assess light commercial vehicles which is a market that is growing very fast. But who knows in future if we are able to come up with something we definitely would like to look at that.

Q) What’s your take on the current diesel engine capacity norms in Delhi?

A) My only request and submission is as business we just need stability and predictability of policy. Whichever way it is please decide and tell us so that we can plan accordingly. I think uncertainty is what makes business anxious. Just give us certainty and predictability, whichever way. Making a product takes 5 years and a policy change in the middle or towards a the launch doesn’t really help.

Q) What is the percentage of automatics sold in the Aspire and the Figo?

A) The sales share of automatics is around in single digits, say 4-8 percent.

Q) Is the Mondeo coming in?

A) There is a lot coming in from Ford, but I don’t know if the Mondeo is included or not.

Q) So its been long since you have introduced the sub assembly parts strategy. Somehow Ford has not been aggressive in promoting this fact. Why the delay?

A) Correct. We are probably too busy engineering cars so we forgot about communication. We have not done a great job of it and we need to make sure the world knows our story better than otherwise. It is a myth that needs to be busted.

Q) Was the lower cost of ownership strategy based on customer feedback?

A) I think two things drove us. I have not heard of anywhere in the world where cost of ownership plays an important role in a car purchase. I mean in India it so cost sensitive that it is unbelievable. As we are getting into segments that are far more competitive with the Figo and so on it is very quickly you realise that the segment purchase is driven by cost of ownership. So we have made sure that the feedback goes right down to the engineering level which also makes better business sense than fixing the problem at the customer level that is with the pricing.

Q) What would be the one-liner that you would tell a customer that Ford has the lowest cost of ownership?

A) The way I do it is like this. I would like to ask the customers using a different make ‘What do you think you are spending right now?’ So I have made sure that I use this, because sometime when you make it closer to them instead of giving global gyan and tell them something which is relatable the chances of them believing is going to be higher.

Q) How many service networks are there in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities?

A) About two-third of it. So about 111 out of the 208 dealerships are in tier 2 and tier 3 and that’s not going to change. Infact now what we are starting is a extended sales and service outlet which are smaller format. The outlets will have sales of 7-8 cars and repair orders of 2 cars a day and it is profitable. So it makes tremendous sense for people who stay in such cities. And by the end of this year half of my network will be that.

The Audi Q2 is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform but will be powered by a new range of 3- and 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from the Audi A1 which is based on a older generation platform. Gearbox options will be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual clutch automatic. On the insides, the Audi Q2 is expected to be on par with the latest generation of Audi with the Virtual Cockpit which is nothing but a high resolution screen that does the same and more as the traditional needles and an updated MMI interface. The car could also get an optional high end speaker system too.

Jaguar has released the full specifications for the F-Type SVR and they have also released new photos of the car.

Jaguar has released the full specifications for the F-Type SVR and they have also released new photos of the car. The British company calls it the all-weather supercar. It is available as a coupe and as a convertible.

The new supercar gets a new front bumper with larger air intakes, air vents on the bonnet, a new rear diffuser with four exhaust tail pipes and a new rear spoiler. The new design improves aerodynamic efficiency of the car and increases its performance. The  rear spoiler is finished in carbon fibre, and to complement this, the car comes with an optional carbon fibre roof panel and a carbon fibre pack which includes small carbon fibre bits.

“The purity of the F-TYPE’s form is something truly special, but in designing the new F-TYPE SVR we had the opportunity to create something even more dramatic. Every additional form, line or component is there for a reason and contributes to the car’s increased performance as well as its presence. Cutting-edge aerodynamics have always been fundamental to Jaguar design, and everything from the enlarged air intakes to the active rear wing is essential to the new F-TYPE SVR’s dramatic looks and 200mph potential,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar.

After the Range Rover Sport SVR, the F-Type SVR is the second vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover to recieve the SVR treatment. Special Vehicle Operations has developed the fastest and most powerful Jaguar series production road car. John Edwards, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations said, “Our objective was to take everything that our customers love about F-TYPE – the performance, the handling, the sound, the design – and take it to a whole new level. This is what the new F-TYPE SVR delivers: it’s a 200mph all-weather supercar. With 575PS, less weight, an uprated chassis and bespoke calibrations for the transmission and all-wheel drive system, performance is even more accessible and exploitable. This is a car that SVO has developed for true enthusiasts but it’s one that can be enjoyed every day.”

Powering the Jaguar F-Type SVR is a 5.0 litre V8 engine producing 567 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 700 Nm of torque between 3,500 to 5,000 rpm. It is mated to an 8-speed Quickshift transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The supercar accelerates from a stand still to a 100 kmph in 3.7 seconds and it returns 8.85 kms to a litre of fuel. The top speed is rated at 322 kmph for the coupe and 314 kmph for the convertible. The car rides on 20-inch wheels.

The supercar is based on a new lightweight aluminium architecture. Weight saving is also provided by a new titanium and Inconel exhaust system, which can withstand higher temperatures and an optional carbon ceramic brakes. The AWD F-Type SVR comes with Adaptive Dynamics, Torque Vectoring, Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), rear electronic active differential (EAD), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) to improve its handling.

On the inside,  14-way SVR Performance seats finished in Jet black leather with a distinctive Lozenge Quilt pattern, contrast stitching and headrests embossed with the SVR logo. Siena Tan or Red leather is also available as an option. The dashboard and the steering wheel are also leather wrapped and the same options are available. The car comes equipped with InControl Touch and InControl Touch Plus infotainment systems with an 8-inch touchscreen system with 3D map displays and an option between a 380W Meridian and a 770W Meridian surround sound audio systems. You also get InControl Apps for smartphones and it offers various services for security and convenience.

The Jaguar F-Type SVR has been priced at 1,10,000 pounds for the coupe and 1,15,485 pounds for the convertible. The car will make its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month and deliveries will start in Summer this year.

Pagani has officially released the new track-focused Huayra BC.

Pagani has officially released the new track-focused Huayra BC. The BC in the name stands for Benny Caiola. Benny Caiola was a famous car collector from Italy and was impressed with Horacio Pagani’s passion for cars. He became the very first customer to buy a Pagani vehicle. The Huayra BC is a road-going car that has been inspired by its track-focussed predecessors, the Zonda R and the Zonda Cinque.

On the outside, the car has been designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency and for even more downforce. Visually, the car gets a huge rear wing, a new rear diffuser and lots of air vents on the body. Just like the normal Huayra, it features active aerodynamics. In order to extract the maximum performance, even internal aerodynamics was treated with high attention. Along with an increase in downforce, Pagani has also dramatically reduced aerodynamic drag. The air passing through the car will be used to provide effective cooling for various mechanical components. The new car has been completely redesigned. Except for the roof, not a single body panel is shared with the old Huayra. On the inside, the car gets traditional Pagani aesthetics with racing emphasis and weight saving in mind.

Powering the Pagani Huayra BC is the same 6.0 litre Biturbo Mercedes-AMG V12 engine that does duty in the regular Huayra. But now, the power output has now been increased to more than 750 bhp at 6,200 rpm and more than a 1,000 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The power output could be as high as 790 bhp. The engine is mated to a new 7-speed AMT gearbox and power is sent to the rear wheels. The car comes with a new titanium sports exhaust system which makes it sound better and it is lighter. The transmission of the car has also been significantly reduced and its drive shaft has been taken from Le Mans racing. The final engine specifications and performance figures have not been released yet. They will be released soon.

To improve the handling of the car, it comes with a new electronic active differential and new suspension. The new suspension components are made from aeronautic aluminium alloy which provides a significant weight saving of 25%. The Bosch ESP system has been re-calibrated and comes with the regular driving modes: ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’. However, for the Huayra BC, a new mode called ‘Track’ has been added. Just like the old car, the chassis of the new car is made from a blend of carbon fibre and titanium. The weight of the car has gone down by 132 kgs.

Stopping power is provided by Brembo carbon ceramic brakes that are not only light but are also stiffer, better at dissipating heat and perform well repeatedly under high-performance braking scenarios. The new supercar from Modena rides on 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear with Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber on them. For the track, the Huayra BC can also be had with 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear. They have Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber on them and they can take forces of up to 2G.

The new Pagani Huayra BC will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Pictures and details of the upcoming Jaguar F-type SVR have been leaked online ahead of the unveiling of the car.

The pictures show a new front bumper with larger air intakes, air vents on the bonnet, a new rear diffuser and a new rear spoiler. It is claimed that the new rear wing reduces lift by 80%. The new larger intakes improve engine and brake cooling.

Powering the SVR will be the same 5.0 litre V8 engine that is present in the F-type R Coupe. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and power will be sent to all four wheels. However, while it makes 542 bhp in the R Coupe, it makes 567 bhp in the SVR. The torque has also gone up by 20 Nm to 700 Nm. The car now accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.7 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds faster. The top speed has also gone up by 22 kmph and it is 322 kmph now.

To deliver the specified performance, the engine will be aided by weight reduction. The car gets carbon ceramic brakes which are 21 kgs lighter, a titanium exhaust system that is 12 kgs lighter and forged aluminium wheels which save 10 kgs.

Jaguar is also building a convertible version of the SVR F-type. It will have a top speed of 312 kmph.

SVR is the in-house specialists of Jaguar Land Rover. Their first car was the Range Rover SVR. This is their second car and the first Jaguar to get the SVR treatment.

The pricing of the car has not been revealed yet. It is expected to cost 1,00,000 pounds.

The F-Type is known for its superb exhaust note. In India, the regular F-type starts at INR 1.26 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and it goes up to INR 1.88 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Williams Martini Racing have released their new car called the Williams Mercedes FW38, ahead of the pre-season testing in Barcelona. The team is looking to build on from a successful 2015 season. Last year, they got four podiums and finished third in the Constructors Championship with 257 points.

Sir Frank Williams, Founder and Team Principal said, “Williams has started to cement our position back amongst the front-running teams after finishing third in the Championship in the past two seasons. This has been a great achievement given the resources of those around us. Staying where we are will be a challenge in itself, but we are determined to keep improving because only winning will ever be good enough. We have a very stable team going into 2016, with Felipe and Valtteri teaming up for a third successive season. They work well together and both have the ideal blend of speed and consistency. Our technical team has also remained very consistent which will be to our advantage and we have some of the best engineering minds on the grid at our disposal. We have a busy couple of weeks of testing coming up to learn more about our package and to refine the car ahead of the first race. We will have to wait until Melbourne to find out exactly where we stand in the pecking order but I’m confident that our hard work over the winter will stand us in good stead.”

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, added, “2016 promises to be a very competitive year in Formula One and there will be a number of strong teams who have us in their sights. We are confident that we have made a step forward over the winter and that the FW38 will build on the strengths of the FW37 and address some of its weaknesses. We started design work on the car earlier than normal and hopefully this extra development time will stand us in good stead. The car we are launching today is by no means the final product. We are already planning updates for Melbourne and will be pushing for constant improvements over the course of the season. Williams enters 2016 in a strong place. We have a great team of people and over the past two years we have started to regain our competitive edge. Now we need to build on that and take this team back to where we all want it to be.”

Driving for the Williams team are Brazilian driver, Felipe Massa and Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas. Massa finished 6th with 121 points in the 2015 Constructors Championship while Bottas finished 5th with 136 points.

Felipe Massa said, “Securing third in the Constructors’ Championship for two consecutive years is a great achievement and one that comes with a lot of expectation – a momentum which I am excited to build on going into the new season. The team at the factory have worked really hard on the new car and we have spent a lot of time understanding where we need to improve. I have a lot of confidence in the team at Williams and I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the FW38 to see how it performs. I’m equally delighted to be teammates with Valtteri for another year. He is a very talented driver who brings a lot to the team.”

Adding to that, Valtteri Bottas said, “This is always a really interesting and exciting time of the year because we have a new car and we can’t wait to get it out on track to see how it feels and how fast it is. It’s been a good winter and from what I’ve seen we seem to be headed in a good direction with this car. Testing next week will be our chance to see how our performance has improved since the last race. The development of the FW38 has been all positive in theory, now we just need to see it on track. As a team we need to be able to win races, which is what we are always trying to do. I’m sure we have made improvements everywhere as a team, so we’re definitely looking to fight for better results this year. I’d like to thank everyone at the factory for their hard work over the winter in getting the car ready.”

The car complies with all the relevant FIA guidelines and it will take to the track at next week’s testing. The first race will be held in Melbourne, Australia on the 20th of March.

The format for the Formula One qualifying round of every race weekend has been changed for the 2016 season.

The format for the Formula One qualifying round of every race weekend has been changed for the 2016 season. Qualifying is held a day before the actual race after the third practice.

The round consisted of three parts and the slowest few in each session was eliminated. In the third session, only the top 10 drivers took part and it sometimes ended with a nail-biting finish to determine the pole setter. The qualifying round went on for an hour every race weekend. The drivers could decide when to come out so that they would not get stuck in traffic and lose out on a good timed lap.

However, for the 2016 season, the qualifying round has been changed from an elimination style to a knockout style. There will still be three rounds where the slowest cars will be kicked out and the top 10 will go on to the last round where the fastest car will take pole position. However, unlike the previous method, the cars will start being eliminated while the session is in progress. When a session has nine minutes remaining, the slowest car will be eliminated from further contention for a grid spot. Every 1.5 minutes after that, another car will get elminated until the session ends. This means that in the final session, the battle for pole will come down to the last 2 cars that are still running, instead of multiple cars.

This means that all the cars should set a quick lap time as soon as possible and that will guarantee a action filled session. What are your thoughts on this new method? Comment below to share your views.

There are so many things where we are ahead of the game. I am not saying we are the quickest, but there is some good stuff on the car.

“We’re paying attention [to rivals], of course. We have strategists who are doing all the calculations already, so we more or less know where we are – because they are able to see full tanks and so on, after a while they get a picture of where everybody is. So we know where we are, within a band of errors. Would you like to know? Sorry, I’m not going to say!”

Rosberg added that Mercedes’ focus on mileage rather than performance had been validated by the discovery of several small issues they may not have otherwise detected.

“We found a few bits and pieces that broke on the car, and we wouldn’t have found them if we’d only done 2000kms. So that has been useful, because for sure that will help us now in the beginning of the season. No race-stoppers, but still things which you don’t really want to see happen.”

Mercedes completed 3,142km over the four days of running in Barcelona – considerably more than Toro Rosso, who logged the second highest tally with 2,080km.

Manor Racing has confirmed its second driver. Indonesian driver Rio Haryanto will join Pascal Wehrlein in the other Manor Racing F1 car. Manor Racing are expected to be more serious contenders this year after signing on  top former Ferrari engineers like Pat Fry and Nikolas Tombazis as engineering director and chief aerodynamicist. They also have access to Mercedes’s wind tunnel and will run Mercedes engines.

The 2016 car will be released on the 22nd of this month and will debut at the first test in Barcelona next week. The first race of the season will be held in Melbourne, Australia on the 20th of March.

Williams’ Rob Smedley was rumored to move to Haas earlier. Talking about the people within the team, Gunether said, “Established people, but no big names – there is no Adrian Newey for example. I think there are less of the big names around.”

Haas cars will be powered by Ferrari engines and their drivers are Romain Grosjean from France and Esteban Gutierrez from Mexico.

Renault chairman Carlos Ghosn said: “Renault had two options: to come back at 100 percent or leave. After a detailed study, I have decided that Renault will be in Formula 1, starting 2016. The final details supplied by F1’s main stakeholders gave us the confidence to accept this new challenge. Our ambition is to win – even if it will take some time.”

The final details of the deal is expected to be completed in the shortest time frame possible and they will be revealed next month.

Lotus had earlier confirmed the drivers for next year and they are also expected to drive for Renault. The drivers are Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado and British driver Jolyon Palmer, who will be debuting in Formula One next year with the team.

It has been almost 5 years since Honda launched its smallest hatchback the Brio in India. The car racked up good sales initially but the pricing meant that the Brio never really set the sales charts on fire for Honda. The Japanese carmaker is hence planning a makeover for the Brio hatchback which might come to India this year. The car was spotted in Indonesia with a reworked front fascia with a new bumper and grille. The chrome bar has given way to a piano black finished element. There are also new blade design alloy wheels which point out that the updated Brio could get a RS variant just like the Mobilio MPV.

The Honda Brio is powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 89BHP of max power. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. So there wont possibly be any changes to the drivetrain options. The interiors of the car were not snapped but expect a few changes on the insides too. The car could get a redesigned instrument cluster and optional AVN package that adds features like Bluetooth, DVD player and a Navigation system to the car.

The Honda Brio competes with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10. The next generation model is expected to arrive in late 2017 so until then the company will be hoping to revive sales of its hatchback with this update. The Honda Brio facelift wont be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and will be only revealed later this year. New safety regulations state that from 2017, all new cars should have side curtain airbags as standard. But the Viper cannot get it due to its limited headroom. The current Viper’s production is expected to end in 2017 before the new safety regulations come into play.

However, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said that an all-new Viper maybe considered to be launched at a later stage. It will be based on the new RWD architecture developed by Alfa Romeo. It is unclear if it will come in time to replace the current car.

The two-door sports car was initially launched in 1992, with a Lamborghini-derived V10, and after two generations, it was discontinued in 2010. The Viper returned to the market in 2013 and was briefly called as the SRT Viper. While the initial car was available only as a roadster, the current third generation is available only as a coupe.

The Dodge Viper SRT is powered by an 8.4 litre V10 engine producing 645 bhp and 814 Nm of torque. This is the largest production engine (in terms of capacity) in the automotive world. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 332 kmph.

The Viper ACR holds the fastest lap records around 13 different racetracks in the US beating expensive hypercars like the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder.
