Porsche 911 R limited edition unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

Never before did a road legal car get ‘R’ nomenclature in its name from Porsche .

. This time, since they have done it, looks like it could be the best ever ‘Porsche’. The Porsche 911 R limited edition is here, making its global debut at Geneva Motor Show.

Only 991 examples of this beauty will be made alongside the existing 911 and each will cost upwards of £136,901. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat six which punches out 493bhp at 8250rpm and 460 Newton metre of torque at 6250 rpm. Most importantly it gets a 6-speed manual transmission which will be loved by people who swear by stick shift. No automatic transmissions available as an option either!! The 911 R with a power-to-weight ratio of 360bhp per tonne, or 13bhp per tonne more than the GT3 RS and does a 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of over 320 kmph.

The reworked chassis features ceramic composite brakes with 410mm discs up front and 390mm discs at the rear. Its wheel and tyre package feature 20-inch rims with 245-section tyres up front and 305-section at the rear. carbon fibre bonnet, carbon fibre front arches and a magnesium roof put it on strict weight saving measures along with the removal of the rear bench seat and a titanium exhaust system. It tips the scale at 1370kg, a full 50kg less than the GT3 RS. Even the air conditioning and infotainment system are optional. There is a retractable spoiler in place unlike the GT3’s fixed wing.

Porsche says the new 991R is ‘arguably the ultimate road-focused 911 in the 53-year history of the model’.
