The new India-bound Toyota Fortuner has received a 5-star safety rating by the Latin NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). The test was conducted to check whether the SUV has the same safety credentials of the pick-up on which it is based, the Toyota Hilux. The Toyota Hilux pick-up truck was tested earlier and it got a 5-star rating. Latin NCAP said that the SUV performed better in some biomechanical aspects.
The next generation Toyota Fortuner will be coming to India in 2017
The base Toyota Fortuner gets seven airbags, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) as standard. The higher versions get 3-point seat belts with Emergency Locking Retractors (ELR), Anit-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and reversing camera.
The SUV gets a 5-star safety rating just like the Toyota Hilux
The next generation of the Fortuner comes with LED headlights, LED tail lamps, LED daytime running lights and a rear spoiler. While the current shares its dashboard with the Innova, the next generation Fortuner gets an all new premium interior with a large touchscreen system and a temperature controlled compartment. The SUV will be powered by the new range of GD diesel engines. A 2.4-litre unit produces 174 bhp while a 2.8-litre unit produces 148 bhp. Transmission options will be a 6-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Fortuner is the best selling SUV in the segment
