MINI has just introduced the Hipster Hatch, a brand new version of the Hardtop designed to finally put fixie-riding millennials behind the wheel.
The Hipster Hatch is offered in three counter-culture-approved colors called Brooklyn Blue, Organic Pumpkin, and Monochromatic Green, respectively. It rides on a modern rendition of the three-spoke alloy wheels that were popular among the tuner crowd during the 1990s.
The cabin has been spruced up with a vintage-looking twin-deck cassette player, a massive speaker that replaces the infotainment screen, and stonewash denim upholstery on the seats. When they're not surfing the web to find the nearest vegan restaurant, the passengers can choose how they view the outside world thanks to 12 pre-loaded Instagram window filters, including Lo-Fi, Clarendon, and Crema.
Technical specifications haven't been published yet. All we know at this point is that the Hipster Hatch has a top speed of 25 mph because it's equipped with a single-speed transmission inspired by the world of fixed-gear bicycles. MINI explains the transmission -- which is essentially a series-produced five-speed with the top four gears removed -- makes the Hatch lighter, simpler, and more thrilling to drive.
The MINI Hipster Hatch will land as a limited-edition model. MINI hasn't revealedwhen it will go on sale, but we imagine it'll be available before April 1st, 2017.
