Airbag mixup prompts Honda Accord recall

Honda has launched a recall campaign to replace airbag components in the 2004-2007 Accord sedan.

Airbag mixup prompts Honda Accord recall

Service technicians ran into problems attempting to replace defective Takata airbag inflators in a series of unrelated recalls. An investigation found that some vehicles were manufactured with the incorrect airbag module for the front passenger.

The mixup makes affected vehicles non-compliant with federal safety regulations related to advanced airbags, which became a requirement for the 2003 model year.

"An air bag module does not meet the advanced air bag requirements can increase the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash," Honda warns.

Approximately 11,600 vehicles will be inspected to determine if the correct airbag modules have been installed.
