Android tweeted out the roll out of Android Auto in eighteen new countries which include India.
Android Auto is a in-car infotainment system which connects your Android OS based smartphone seamlessly with the car. Once connected, the driver does not have to pick up the phone for anything while driving the car with everything being controlled through the touchscreen display on the car dashboard.
Android Auto only works with phones running on Android Lolipop (5.0) and higher. No other phones can be connected to the system. However, if you have cars equipped with Apple Car Play(which works similarly for iOS devices), Android Auto can be retrofitted. As more and more companies come on board, the system will gain more users. Currently, the likes of Audi, Hyundai, Mahindra, Suzuki, Honda, Volkswagen, Renaultand Skodagive customers the option of Android Auto.
The first car to be equipped with Android Auto in India is the Mahindra XUV 500 and shortly, it will be seen on the Scorpio as well. 2017 Hyundai Elantra will come with Android Auto when launched in India. Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Ciazor Ertiga, with the SmartPlay infotainment system will be eligible for free software upgrade which will see the android connectivity on these models soon. The curiosity will be as to how many apps will be available on Android Auto in India. Currently, navigation, voice calls and music streaming can be easily done through Android Auto.

Android Auto was previously available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, the UK, and the US with the total count of countries going from 11 to 29. Android Auto was launched in 2014. Since the rollout is the biggest and especially includes huge countries like India Russia and Brazil, the number of users could rise exponentially.
