Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched a new technology-based venture focused on exploring future mobility solutions such as car-sharing services.
Dubbed "InMotion," the new business will begin pilot testing in major markets as early as next month, with expansion planned thereafter, according to Reuters .
Essentially, InMotion will function as a corporate incubator for new start-ups. JLR Group Strategy Director Adrian Hallmark toldTechCrunch that it made sense to establish InMotion as a separate business entity to allow it to better integrate with the life cycle of digital products, which is much quicker and less permanent than that of a typical car's.
And while the initial push for mobility projects came from within JLR, it's the company's hope that InMotion will attract attention from the wider startup community and open up opportunities for collaboration.
How much of JLR's push toward autonomous vehicle techwill bleed over into the new venture is not entirely clear, however it's likely that some programs will operate in parallel to some degree.
