We recently reported that the British company is looking to build a stripped out lightweight track focused car based on the V8 Vantage to take on cars like the Porsche 911 GT3. Christened the Aston martin GT8, it has been spotted testing for the first time. The car will be getting a huge rear wing and vents on the bonnet that look similar to the Aston Martin GT12.

The supercar is a lightweight stripped out track-oriented vehicle which will be made of carbon fibre, titanium and aluminium. The engine will be the same 4.8-litre V8 engine but it is expected to produce more power than the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S. Performance figures will also see an improvement. 0-100 kmph acceleration time will be around 4.5 seconds. The transmission will be a 7-speed manual or a Sportshift II automatic transmission.

Aston Martin is building only 150 units of the GT8 and it is expected to cost around 1,70,000 pounds. The car will be fully revealed to customers later this week, that means the official reveal could be near. Potential customers received invitations from the company along with a teaser sketch.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is the most powerful version in the range. It is powered by a 4.8-litre V8 engine producing 430 bhp at 7,300 rpm and 490 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a Sportshift automatic transmission. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 305 kmph. The sports car returns 7.8 kms to a litre of petrol.

In India, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage range starts at INR 1.86 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 2.40 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It competes with the Maserati GranTurismo, Jaguar F-Type, BMW M4 and the Porsche 911.
